We are pleased to announce that 4,000 recycling totes have been delivered to Township households! We are looking at a second round of deliveries July 17-19 for those who have contacted the Township because you still need a bin or wish to return/exchange your bin.
If you have already reached out to the Township regarding your request, you should have received an email on 6/26 confirming that you are on that list for July 17-19. That email included the following instructions:
Tote Return
- Empty and clean the tote you are returning.
- Dirty or used totes will not be collected.
- Place and leave your tote for return at the end of your driveway or front of your property on Wednesday July 17 before 7 AM for pick-up by Friday July 19
Size Exchange
- If you requested a different size
- Follow the return instructions above
- A new container will be delivered once your tote is collected
- If your tote was already picked up, you will receive your replacement tote from July 17-19
If you have not previously reached out to the Township, we do still have a limited number of bins, both 65-gallon and 95-gallon. Please email solidwaste@westwhiteland.org before July 10.
Why Use Recycle Totes?
The solid waste industry is moving in a direction where these carts will soon be necessary for the collection of waste, as more trucks are equipped with automated arms compatible with the bins. This increased efficiency, together with enhanced collection staff safety and additional space to store recyclables, makes these carts a win for the community! The more "clean" recycling we collect, the more grant money we can claim, and the more we are able to control costs to the residents.
Partnership With The Recycling Partnership
Thanks to a grant from The Recycling Partnership, West Whiteland Township is providing 5,000 households with large, wheeled recycling totes for their weekly collection. These carts provide additional space for collecting recycling and, importantly, improve both safety and efficiency for the trash and recycling haulers. The first of two delivery phases began the week of June 10.
We value your feedback as we continually look for ways to improve services for our residents and to continue to build upon our very successful recycling program which we rank in the top 10% in the State. West Whiteland Township receives money from Pennsylvania based on the amount of material we recycle. The more we recycle, the more money we get back to keep the trash bag prices down. Please help us continue to make recycling pay!
