DEP is accepting comments on Sunoco’s requested permit modifications for Pottstown Pk and Swedesford Rd until March 12, 2018.
Background:
In February 2017, DEP approved Sunoco’s applications for Chapter 102, Erosion and Sediment Control (E&S) Permits and Chapter 105, Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permits for the Mariner East 2 pipeline project. In October 2017, Sunoco submitted applications requesting modifications to their Chapter 102 permits for the Swedesford Road and Pottstown Pike segments in West Whiteland Township. The requested modifications were due to the change from horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to open trench/boring installation for those segments.
DEP posted a notice in the PA Bulletin that they are accepting comments until March 12, 2018 on the permit modifications that Sunoco is requesting.
Previously, Sunoco was required to submit supplemental information about the use of HDD in a number of sites, including Pottstown Pike and Swedesford Road. DEP accepted public comments about Sunoco’s HDD analysis for those two segments in December and January.
The HDD evaluations were separate applications from Sunoco’s requested permit modifications. Anyone with comments about the proposed open trench installation should submit them to DEP by March 12th even if you already submitted comments on that work to DEP during the review of the HDD analysis.
