Pipeline Markers

Aboveground markers identify the approximate location of underground pipelines. Markers may have different designs but every one conveys the same information: the product transported, a 24-hour emergency phone number and the pipeline company name.

If this information is accessible, share it with 911 in the event of an emergency.

Important Note: Markers are found where a pipeline intersects a street, highway, railway or waterway, to warn that a transmission pipeline is located in the area. Pipeline markers indicate only the presence of a pipeline. They cannot be relied upon to determine the exact location of the pipeline. Therefore, all excavators must call 811 before digging; do not rely on the exact placement of the marker to determine if digging is allowed.
